The Path To Confidence

As we are making our way towards getting that degree in college, along the way comes many challenges. Challenges that we, as college students must face in order to succeed. But I feel like every time we conquer those challenges, it is a step closer to where we want to be. As long as you put in hard work & resilience, that is all that matters.

During my Summer of 2020, I was extremely humbled to be given the opportunity to become a Summer Intern for Neighborhood House Association of San Diego. That was my first internship in college and I was so grateful to be chosen! The process was not easy, but with hard work came the results. I remember I was going up against graduate students & other students like myself who I felt were more qualified than me. I felt so scared that I wasn’t going to be able to get a spot. But little did I know, I received an email saying that I got an interview! Later after the interview, they told me I was going to hear back about whether or not I got the Summer Internship position within a few days. After anxiously waiting for a few days, I got a call from the HR Coordinator telling me I got it!

I’m really glad I decided to take that risk because it gave me more confidence which was what I needed. It reminded me that no matter who you are, you are worthy and capable of getting roles and positions. Never doubt yourself, because at the end of the day you’re the only one who makes the calls for yourself.

This summer internship gave me so much within only 2 months! Such as learning more about the professional side of the work field, how to properly write an email to your boss, supervisor, manager, and how to make proposals for your executive board members to oversee, then present them. I also got the chance to network with new people from different places like Texas, Irvine, and Missouri.

From being someone who is always a negative thinker to being someone who is more of a ‘glass is half full’ kind of a person; From being scared of getting looked over to being someone who is open to judgements and criticisms positively. I feel like I now have a better understanding and if you’ve read this far, I challenge you to make that big step into applying for your first internship! I certainly have come a long long way. I am so excited to see what else the future has in store for me. Looking forward to learning so much. #GrowthMindset #ChallengeYourself #GoAboveandBeyond #SummerInternship
